Kashmir Solidarity Day

Letter April 08, 2018
It does little to serve the purpose of rendering the Kashmiris the freedom they deserve

ISLAMABAD: To reaffirm its resoluteness towards the cause of Kashmir, a Solidarity Day was observed across Pakistan on April 6th 2018. The day was marked with rallies and demonstrations in major cities to protest against the Indian atrocities in the disputed Himalayan territory. With considerable political support from the government, the day may have served the purpose of expressing Pakistan’s determined support for the Kashmiris, but it does little to serve the purpose of rendering the Kashmiris the freedom they deserve.

First observed in 1991, now for more than two decades Pakistanis have observed the ‘Kashmir Day’ every year on February 5th. However, not much has come out of it. Hence, another day to express solidarity with the Kashmiris might be purposeless if it does nothing for those who suffer oppression.
