Between the lawful and unlawful

Letter April 08, 2018
This has put the government and the judiciary at odds once again

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has nullified the interior ministry notification that ordered freezing of the bank accounts and confiscation of the assets of the banned JuD and its welfare wing, Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation. The court order has not only sought a reply from the interior ministry but has also allowed the foundation to continue with its ‘lawful’ activities.

However, following the court’s decision the task for the ministry concerned would be to differentiate and draw distinctions between the ‘lawful’ activities of the ‘black-listed’ organisation and the unlawful ones.

However, this has put the government and the judiciary at odds once again, where the former’s action taken in the wake of international donors’ pressure has been reversed by the court.
