Shehbaz in the spotlight

Letter April 06, 2018
CM has probably for the first time ever spoken openly about the role of the military in the country

LAHORE: It would be no surprise if the recent statements by the chief minister of Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif, are seen in the light of his efforts to mend ties between the army and his party, although his position is a possible deviation from his party’s standpoint.

While talking to journalists at the Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute on Wednesday, April 4th, Shehbaz said, “The civilian and military authorities must work together to counter the challenges facing Pakistan.”

Perhaps, this statement shall render his party some good if not exactly support from the military. Also, as highlighted by the media, the CM has probably for the first time ever spoken openly about the role of the military in the country, which is again one subtle way for him to exercise the power he has as the party head of the PML-N, and as a serious contender for the position of PM.
