Sindh Aids Control Programme states that 70 per cent of the HIV cases stem from unscreened blood transfusions
KARACHI: Despite the availability of medical treatment to prevent and cure HIV, the disease continues to haunt many in the country. The Sindh Aids Control Programme states that 70 per cent of the HIV cases stem from unscreened blood transfusions and there are approximately 56,000 patients of the same in Sindh only.
Alarmingly, beside the masses being much aware of the basic precautionary measures and the importance of timely screening to test for the disease, HIV cases are still being continuously reported from the country. However, to control this menace it is not as hard as it may seem, as blood banks should only be authorised to transfuse blood to patients. For factors leading to HIV originating out of unprotected can also be controlled by spreading awareness among the masses about taking preventive measures.
