Increasingly important for culture exchanges to take place for the leadership of the two countries
KARACHI: The entertainment industry in Pakistan and India has perhaps become the only platform that lets the people of the two estranged neighbours engage without any animosity. And this was witnessed once again on March 30th when celebrities from India and Pakistan came together for the re-launch of India’s popular magazine Filmfare Middle East. Pakistani celebrities such as Fawad Khan and Mehwish Hayat shared the same stage with Indian stars like Deepika Podukone and Karan Johar in Dubai.
Considering the present hostile relations between Pakistan and India, it becomes increasingly important for culture exchanges to take place for the leadership of the two countries to be able to think about normalising their relations. In fact, the very first edition of Pakistan International Film Festival that began in Karachi on March 29th also brought Indian celebrities like Nandita Das and Vishal Bhardwaj among others to Pakistan to share the platform with their Pakistani counterparts. Not only should such interactions be encouraged but they should also direct change and help calm the storm across either side of the border.
