Face of a cause

Letter April 01, 2018
Keeping the reasons for her arrival aside, promoting the right to education for girls is a genuine cause

ISLAMABAD: Malala Yousafzai’s arrival in Pakistan, as expected, has garnered a mixed response from Pakistanis. Where some were overwhelmingly supportive and welcoimg of her arrival, many chose the occasion to question her over her loyalty towards the country. Keeping the reasons for her arrival aside, promoting the right to education for girls is a genuine cause, particularly in those parts of the country where females receiving education is considered to be unacceptable.

It is important that for a moment, Pakistanis see Malala as the face of a just cause, which, if it succeeds in bringing a minor change in the mindset of the majority towards female progress would be a significant success for a social setup that still has to go a long way.
