The foremost step in ensuring their participation in social, political and economic activities
QUETTA: The killing of two transgender persons in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa is reflective of the fact that the laws created to mainstream the transgender community as functioning members of society do little in securing their basic right to live as freely as other citizens of the country. Albeit, the reasons for the incident are yet to be revealed through police investigation, the surge in cases of violence and rape against members of the community since the start of the current year shows that the situation has only worsened. Hence, before legislating any other laws aimed at the betterment of the socio-economic conditions of transgender persons, their lives need to be protected, which is the foremost step in ensuring their participation in social, political and economic activities.
