DUBAI: This is with reference to your editorial of May 12 titled “Getting to the truth about Abbottabad”. The demand for a judicial investigation is a valid one and the entire nation should support it. What happened in Abbottabad has ended up causing much national humiliation. The inordinate involvement of the army in the political affairs of the country has always been viewed with disapproval by many and now this past role is again under the spotlight. Hence, the need for an independent inquiry is great, and that means not one by the military, since it would be investigating itself, but by a third party.
In our history, we have had many debacles, followed by inquiries and none of them were made public. Some debacles didn’t even have any inquiries. But the nation wants none of that now. Now it deserves some answers, and they will come only if there is an independent inquiry.
