Cricket comes to Karachi

Letter March 26, 2018
The whole city united to witness international cricket being played in the city of lights

KARACHI: Irrespective of the long hours to enter the stadium and multiple security checkpoints and unfazed by scorching heat in the roofless stadium, Karachiites showed up in significant numbers to welcome cricket in their city of lights. The enthusiasm and fervour of the residents of the metropolis that was witnessed on the night of March 25th as the Islamabad United played against Peshawar Zalmi in the final of the third edition of PSL goes on to show that love for cricket can unite the people.

While many showed their enthusiasm by filling thousands of seats in the stadium and cheering for their favourite teams, others cheered for their teams at screenings held all across the city, from Ocean Mall cinema to roadside dhabas. The atmosphere of festivity made everyone forget about the ills that plague the city — potholes, water shortage, load-shedding — for one day. The whole city united to witness international cricket being played in the city of lights. And for this not only should the PCB be lauded but so should the military establishment that has ensured security.
