Seventy years after partition, neither India nor Pakistan has been able to reconcile the situation
ISLAMABAD: No matter how much the leadership of the two countries — Pakistan and India — feed the narrative of hate to their respective populace, there is no denying the fact that only through dialogue and progress can the two truly progress. The recent statement by Pakistan’s high commissioner to India, Sohail Mahmood, further lends credence to this idea.
In a recently held reception at the High Commission in India to mark Pakistan Day, Mahmood said that both India and Pakistan must give their next generations a future of hope and opportunities. The youth in the two countries is tired of being fed hate for each other and such prejudice is doing no one favours.
Seventy years after partition, neither India nor Pakistan has been able to reconcile the situation and peacefully live as friendly neighbours such as the United States and Canada. The two, if united, can restore peace in the region and it’s time serious efforts were made to do just that. The ruling parties of the two estranged neighbours along with their military counterparts should sit together and devise a strategy to exist in harmony and peace.
