Angry Pakistanis

Letter March 21, 2018
Parents should work with the state apparatus in place

KARACHI: Frustration and aggression in the country is becoming impossible to curtail. People are resorting to taking matters into their own hands and venting out their frustration through barbaric methods. One such incident recently took place in Gujrat’s Rehmania neighbourhood, where three college students were stripped naked and tortured after being abducted by influentials of the area.

The students were abducted after a scuffle broke out between two rival groups in their college. They were then locked in a room and tortured. As if that was not enough, the abusers filmed the entire ordeal to perhaps use it against them in the future. Even though a police case has been lodged, it is highly unlikely that the influentials will be arrested or charged with their offence considering the feudal system of the country.

Moreover, while having effective laws in place it is important to put criminals behind bars and equally important to build tolerance among people, especially our youth.

The youth, especially boys, should be advocated to handle their emotions in pragmatic ways. Parents should teach them the do’s and don’ts of how to cope with their anger rather than going with the dangerous idea of ‘boys will be boys’. This idea has not only ruined the lives of people around them but has also gone on to ruin their own lives.

Parents should work with the state apparatus in place as well as welfare organisations to raise better boys.
