Scrutiny before recruitment

Letter March 17, 2018
Almost all government sector offices and enterprises need to guard against forged documentation

ISLAMABAD: Several years ago, there was a hue and cry over the issue of forged degrees that Pakistani politicians seemed to have used to qualify for public offices. It so happened that a number of political leaders were not found to be in possession of original and legitimate academic documents. Over a period of time, it became clear that the habit for falsifying degrees was not exclusive to politicians.

Almost all government sector offices and enterprises need to guard against forged documentation. An investigation should be conducted to ensure all their staff and members have valid educational qualifications and academic degrees, especially because in a recent National Assembly session, it was revealed that as many as 659 Pakistan International Airlines employees have acquired fake educational degrees.

Although 391 out of 650 have been fired from their jobs, it is due to inefficient and outdated recruitment methods that make room for ineligible candidates to be hired in the first place. The solution to this, however, lies in tough scrutiny being held that thoroughly examines the educational documents of all the candidates applying for the positions.
