MML’s registration as a political party

Letter March 10, 2018
It is important for courts and ministries to be on the same page

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has once again reversed the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) not to register Milli Muslim League as a political party. The action not to register the party was taken following the directives of the Ministry of Interior to the ECP. Therefore, the reversal of the decision is the ministry of Interior’s call and not that of the ECP.

The court has referred the case back to the poll monitoring body implying that the party to the case should be heard. However, as per the measures taken to bar militant outfits from operating on political fronts in the country by the government, it is has become even more important for the courts and the ministries concerned to be on the same page on important issues that are likely to have consequences for Pakistan’s relations with other states.
