the present laws on enforced disappearances and captivity are ambiguous
LAHORE: It’s been decades since court proceedings were initiated for cases of enforced disappearances in Pakistan. Hence, justice for the grieving families of those missing has still not been served. Worst is the fact that many allegedly abducted by law-enforcement agencies have no access to legal help and the justice system of the country, and are kept in custody only on the basis of suspicion.
Moreover, the present laws on enforced disappearances and captivity are ambiguous and subsequent governments too have chosen to keep mum over the subject. This ambiguity adds to the anxieties of the affected families, leaving them with unanswered questions to ponder upon for life.
