National Assembly's upper house much like the lower house often becomes a representation of the policies
LAHORE: The process to elect members of the Senate, the upper house of Pakistan’s parliament, for another five years is underway. The body is entitled to pass legislations upon matters of national and international concerns, often forwarded by the lower house, that is, the National Assembly.
However, the upper house much like the lower house often becomes a representation of the policies and politically vested interests of the party that holds the most number of seats in the house and hence enjoys dominance over others. By extension, often legislations are passed to protect the party’s own interests. Although the case has been the same with provincial assemblies of the country as well, it is important that legislatures work solely to serve the greater interests of the country.
