If all the boards are following the same code of conduct then why do their decisions differ?
KARACHI: Another Bollywood movie has been banned in Pakistan by the Central Board of Film Censors (CBFC) Islamabad this year. Just last month the board banned the critically-acclaimed movie Padman, citing that its content was ‘inappropriate’ for public viewing. This time around horror flick Pari has been banned as well, citing the same reason.
Perhaps, the CBFC has once again failed to recognise the fact that it is a body that has been set up to provide certificates of appropriate ratings to movies than banning them. Moreover, why is it that when the Sindh and Punjab boards of film censors often pass the movies with some cuts, the central board seems it fit to completely ban it? Not only does this show a lack of coordination among the three boards but also raises questions over the code of conduct set for all three. If all the boards are following the same code of conduct then why do their decisions differ? All these questions should be answered by the authorities concerned.
