Cousin marriages are a major cause for inherited diseases and genetic disorders in the country
LAHORE: On World Rare Disease Day, research work has been put forward by experts stating that cousin marriages are a major cause for inherited diseases and genetic disorders in the country. With approximately 350 genetic disorders being diagnosed, there are only few that are treatable in the country. Cousin marriages are a common practice across Pakistan.
Now that these research works have proven the adverse effects of it on the genetic makeup of future generations, it is important that the government enacts a law allowing cousin marriages after tests of the would be couple.
