Failed blame game

Letter February 28, 2018
It’s not just the US that has gone tough on Pakistan other states too have opted for a similar stance

LAHORE: The adviser to the prime minister on finance, Miftah Ismail, is trying hard to portray that the US and European states will be responsible for the consequences of the Paris decision that now Pakistan might bear. The adviser in his recent statements has reiterated that the US is trying to embarrass Pakistan by placing it in the ‘grey list’. However, as a matter of fact, this time, it’s not just the US that has gone tough on Pakistan other states too have opted for a similar stance.

But it is important to understand that the move has not come overnight. Had the Pakistani government taken action against the black listed and proscribed outfits and groups in the country, the situation would have been relatively different and easier for Pakistan to better present its position to the stakeholders involved.
