IHC decision on suspension of cellular services

Letter February 28, 2018
It has also cost billions in losses to not only cellular companies but also to businesses

KARACHI: Giving its wise decision over the suspension of cellular services by the government, the Islamabad High Court has declared the practice illegal and a violation of the fundamental rights of the cellular service providers. Lately, the suspension of the service has been excessively used by the government to avert any potential threats and security risks, even though this strategy to deal with security issues has not really helped in reducing terrorist attacks. Rather it has resulted in situations turning threatening and risky, on an individual and collective level.

Moreover, it has also cost billions in losses to not only cellular companies but also to businesses whose trade activities are put into a grinding halt owing to it.
