Weapons licence ban

Letter February 22, 2018
Issuance of weapon licences caused substantial debate in legislatures of the country

QUETTA: Lately, the issuance of weapon licences has caused substantial debate in the legislatures of the country. Previously, a ban was lifted, so that automatic weapons can be owned primarily for the purpose of self-defence due to the grim law and order situation in the country. Later, a ban was again implemented on licences for weapons on the pretext of these weapons being used to harass citizens. Now, the Senate Standing Committee on the Interior despite the objection of the Ministry of Interior has directed the concerned to withdraw the notification that suspends the issuance of licence of the said weapons.

The reasons for the directive best known to the Senate Standing Committee are likely to increase not only the purchase of weapons but also the sense of insecurity among citizens.
