Believe what we want to believe

Letter May 07, 2011
Man is hardwired to justify whatever he wants to believe when he so chooses.

PORTLAND, OR, US: This is with reference to Pervez Hoodbhoy’s article of May 3 titled “The curious case of Osama bin Laden”. I do not mean to belittle the seriousness of the discussions but it seems — to me at least — that man is hardwired to justify whatever he wants to believe when he so chooses. Within this framework, it would be fair to say that the truth will only be known many years later, when most of us will be gone, and the then generation will not care enough in any case.
