Continuing the fight

Letter February 19, 2018
We should not stop our fight against criminals to protect our children

KARACHI: The court verdict given in the Zainab case may have come as a good decision to many. Considering that the sanctity of the judiciary should also be upheld, one should also question the credibility of the trial that was wrapped up in just four days. Activists and lawyers too have expressed their concern over alleged lack of fair trial given to the accused.

On the other hand, let’s not forget that while we rejoice over the justice done in one of the most heinous crimes, we should not stop our fight against criminals to protect our children. The discourse on sexual abuse following little Zainab’s brutal rape and murder should be continued and active efforts should be made to ensure that another child is never treated in such a brutal manner. This will take time, a long time before we can proudly say that our country is safe for our children and our women. But that shouldn’t make us lose hope and we should continue our struggle and vigilance. Raise better human beings, raise better boys and educate our men to keep our children and our women safe. And we should start from our own homes.
