LAHORE: Time and again, the accusation by the US and the international community have undermined Pakistan’s efforts in curbing terrorism. Despite being a major loss bearer in the war against terror, Pakistan at the same time is held responsible for harbouring and covertly supporting terrorist organisations. From aid cuts to threats of unilateral actions, the state has had it all. Though not for the first time, Pakistan has once again been placed in the terror financing state’s watch list of the Financial Action Task Force. While inclusion in the list will toughen trade, investments and securing finance from international donors, it also shows how Pakistan’s efforts are seen by the international community.
Where the US policy towards Pakistan has drastically changed in President Trump’s time, neighbouring countries too have opted for stricter stance on Pakistan accusing it of having terrorist safe havens in its territory. This inclusion in the list will not only affect the country’s image but will also negatively affect its economy in the near future. And perhaps this negativity may also trickle down towards the multibillion dollar project, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
