What’s the truth?

Letter May 05, 2011
Clearly, the May 1 raid suggests that those in charge of the nation’s security are either incompetent or complicit.

JUBAIL, SAUDI ARABIA: Conspiracy theorists apart, ordinary Pakistanis all want to know how Osama bin Laden was living under the very nose of the army and intelligence agencies who, by their own admission, were busy hunting him elsewhere in the country. They are also wondering how the Americans managed to enter and penetrate so deep into Pakistani territory without any challenge from the Pakistani military.

This is all very embarrassing and confusing for ordinary people who depend, and expect, the government and the military to take care of national security issues. Clearly, the May 1 raid suggests that those in charge of the nation’s security are either incompetent or complicit in the whole affair.

Also, the day that the raid happened, the government was busy expanding the cabinet by including a new coalition partner. And the next day, the prime minister left the country for a foreign trip.

One concurs with the MQM chief’s demand to hold an all-parties conference where the military and intelligence chiefs can take the participants into confidence on what exactly happened.
