Pakistan’s low crop yield per hectare has sunk to one of the lowest levels in the world
TURBAT: It is a known fact that the agriculture sector plays a vital role in developing the economy of any country. But unfortunately the agriculture of our beloved country is on a downturn. According to a report in this paper, Pakistan’s low crop yield per hectare has not gotten any better for a long time and now it has sunk to one of the lowest levels in the world. It is understood that Pakistan’s agricultural productivity ranges between 29% and 52%, which is far lower than the world’s best averages for major commodities.
It is pertinent to note here that almost 50% of the agricultural products are wasted in Pakistan due to unavailability of a sufficient cold chain, logistics and processing facilities. In the wake of these issues, I request the authorities concerned to take serious steps to bring improvement in Pakistan’s agriculture sector which is the main driving force behind the economy.
