The provincial metropolis which was formerly known as the city of lights, has now become the city of garbage and filth
KARACHI: One is baffled to see the prevailing unhygienic conditions in Sindh, specially in the provincial capital. The provincial metropolis, which was formerly known as the city of lights, has now become the city of garbage and filth. In many places of the city roads have been dug up and left unrepaired for months altogether.
As a result, there are dirt and mud all over the place so much so that many places have become impassible. A large part of the flyover near Drigh Road railway station was demolished several months ago and reconstruction work has been moving at a snail’s pace causing severe traffic jams on a daily basis.
There are many roads of which large stretches have become dirt tracks. This reminds one that once there were metalled roads there. To add to this, heaps of garbage lie at most places of the city with no one caring to clear the garbage dumps. Dividers between two roads are full of garbage. Most of the two tracks have multiple large craters. To make matters worse there are gutter overflows. This is further adding to unsanitary conditions. It seems that the provincial government is unable to see these insufferable conditions. Someone has said, to see is political and not to see is also political.
