US failure in Afghanistan

Letter February 01, 2018
The recurring blasts and attacks in Afghanistan are the consequences of the disastrous failure of the US policy

ISLAMABAD: The recurring bomb blasts and terrorist attacks in Afghanistan are the consequences of the disastrous failure of the US policy. Stretched over almost 17 years, the Afghan war has not only turned Afghanistan into a war-ravaged ruin, but has consequently left an irreversible impact on not only the failure of the US policy in the wake of war on terrorism, but has also significantly led to the economic destruction of Afghanistan. The Afghan economy has become a war economy, where taxes fund the war more than they fund development.

Worst is the current situation, where despite its repetitive claim about defeating the Taliban, the US now has to face two militant groups together — the Taliban and the Islamic State. Already engaged in the war on multiple fronts against the IS, the possibility of the US coming out of the two wars is remote for the short term.
