Lacking trust in the system

Letter January 29, 2018
It is the responsibility of the Punjab government to ensure no extraneous influence is brought to bear upon Kasur case

ISLAMABAD: The suspicion and skepticism surrounding the Kasur case show the extent to which the public is unwilling to trust the police, their ability to conduct transparent investigations and more than anything the shattered trust of the common people in the legal system of the country. The Punjab police just a day before the expiry of the deadline caught the suspect of the case, who then in a rather dramatic manner turned out to be the culprit.

Following that numerous allegations, counter-arguments were put forward, many of which seem to be making sense. Previously, a number of members of the ruling PML-N were reportedly found to be involved in similar cases of child pornography, which makes it even more important not to ignore any such incidents. Now it is the responsibility of the Punjab government to ensure that no extraneous influence is brought to bear upon the case and anyone who is caught in the scandal is not protected.
