It is now obvious that Pakistan and its people are unsafe in the hands of leaders who run the state.
KARACHI: While many already held the same suspicion, the OBL episode only confirms the inept, disinterested, delinquent and delusional nature of the Pakistani state and its institutions. They failed to detect OBL’s presence in a prominent location of a garrison town over the past several years (interpreted as harbouring of terrorists by the rest of the world). The nuclear armed state was completely clueless, response-less and thoughtless when the helicopters of another country indulged in an act of aggression and raided our territory for a good two hours.
It is now obvious that Pakistan and its people are unsafe in the hands of leaders who run the state and its security apparatus. When the interests, residences and money of the rulers reside in foreign lands, it may be unreasonable to expect them to fight for the territory or the rights of the ordinary people.
Shouldn’t the president, the prime minister, the three service chiefs and the ISI chief, who have lost the trust of the people of Pakistan, be asked to resign? In a more civilised country this would have already happened — and that too voluntarily.
