Dark days ahead

Letter May 04, 2011
What we saw in Abbottabad is just a stunt pulled off by the Americans.

LAHORE: This refers to Dr Pervez Hoodbhoy’s article of May 4 titled “The curious case of Osama bin Laden”. The piece was a nice read and yes, the circumstances surrounding his death, and the actual event itself, are “very curious”. Also there are just too many loose ends.

How did helicopters, relatively slow as compared to fighter jets, cross the border into the heart of Pakistan and were not detected at all? Why didn’t the Americans want to show evidence of OBL’s death, given that failure to do so would raise doubts from many people all over the world? For instance, why didn’t they show a video like in the case of Saddam’s capture?

Where is his body? Why was he buried at sea so soon? Why didn’t they keep his body like they did in the case of other captured fugitives?

My take, and some may not believe it, is that he died years ago. And what we saw in Abbottabad is just a stunt pulled off by the Americans. That said, one thing is for certain, though. Pakistan has dark days ahead.
