Media ethics

Letter January 22, 2018
Modern-day journalism is more social media-centric,with a majority relying upon sources obtained through this platform

KARACHI: Lately, there has been less of an outcry and more of a disagreement among the media and the journalist fraternity over media and journalistic ethics. The prevailing situation shows that the line between news sources as credible and authentic and fake ones has nearly blurred. Modern-day journalism is more social media-centric, with a majority relying upon sources obtained through this platform. As now citizens too in many instances have taken it to themselves to report about social and political happenings via citizen or photo journalism, there is greater need for verification and authentication of news.
