
The great poet had Master’s degrees in several languages and lived in Canada and Europe for years
TURBAT: Every year on January 12th the birth anniversary of the renowned Urdu poet Ahmad Faraz is observed. This year marks the 87th birth anniversary of the acclaimed poet. Ahmed Faraz began his career from the platform of Radio Pakistan and has earned top prizes such as the Adamjee Literary Award, Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Hilal-e-Imtiaz by the government of Pakistan for his contributions to the Urdu language. The great poet had Master’s degrees in several languages and lived in Canada and Europe for years before returning to Pakistan. Upon his return, Faraz was initially appointed the head of the Academy of Letters, and also served as the chairperson of the National Book Foundation for several years.
