Discrimination against transgender persons

Letter January 19, 2018
Members of the transgender community must be allowed equal opportunities like other

ISLAMABAD: The Council of Islamic ideology’s declaration against the discriminatory treatment of the transgender community is admirable and indeed the need of the hour. Yet society at large continues to treat members of the community in an unjust manner. As numerous incidents of transgender persons being humiliated for various reasons at the hands of police, other authorities and the public often make it to the media, it is about time that such an attitude was changed for the better.

Members of the transgender community must be allowed equal opportunities like others and given special quotas in jobs in public and private sector organisations so that the grievances of the community can be rectified.
