The government should act so that no such incident takes place in future
TURBAT: It is painful to note that after the rape and murder of eight-year-old Zainab, another 16-year-old Sajida has been subjected to rape and murder in a Punjab town only a day after the tragedy of Kasur.
According to a report in this paper, Sajida had gone into the fields for her daily lavatory needs in the morning where unidentified men strangled her to death after subjecting her to rape. Though we are coming across such reports almost on a daily basis, unfortunately no one is serious enough to take substantial action — neither the government nor our great politicians.
While these two tragedies are painful enough, the news of 14-year-old Mehreen gone missing has further put the entire nation in shock. The teenager’s mother told reporters that Mehreen had gone missing from near her residence in Pirwadhai, Bangash Colony, shortly after she was seen playing outside.
I urged the authorities concerned and the government to take serious action for her safe recovery. The government should act so that no such incident takes place in future. Criminals involved in rape and murder must be given deterrent punishment.
