Sale of banned hormone

Letter January 10, 2018
The hormone injection was earlier banned in other provinces, excluding Sindh

LAHORE: The helplessness of the authorities in relation to the milk farm owners and suppliers is evident from the fact that a hormone injection banned by the Supreme Court was being openly sold in the medicine market in the federal capital on January 7th, that too three times more than its original price. The hormone injection was earlier banned in other provinces, excluding Sindh, where its sale was still allowed. However, later it was being sold across the country illegally. The banned hormone that is believed to increase milk supply by 10 to 15 per cent from an animal causes early puberty among girls, while also increases chances for developing breast cancer.

It is commendable that the authorities are taking strict action against the supply of the hormone. It is pertinent to note that not quite long ago the required demand for milk was being made without any hormonal injections being used.
