Helmet saves bike riders from injuries that might prove fatal
KARACHI: Recently, law-enforcement personnel in Swat distributed helmets in the region to promote safety measures for bike riders. The police, along with civil society members, distributed helmets to bikers with a note advising them to use helmets. Optimistically, the campaign should render the desired result. However, previously, attempts to ensure the use of helmets among bike riders in major cities such as Karachi have proved a failure, despite the fact that the traffic police fined those who rode bikes without wearing helmets. Therefore, a distribution of free helmets among the public is less likely to serve the purpose. Hence, an awareness campaign should also be launched that will educate the masses about the benefit of wearing a helmet. Helmet saves bike riders from injuries that might prove fatal.
