Triple talaq is a serious issue that needs much greater attention
ISLAMABAD: Last week in Islamabad, the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) supported the imposition of punishment for triple talaq at one time. In a country where religion is sometimes used for one’s own convenience, the concept of triple talaq is often misused by men. In view of this, the consideration of imposing a punishment is significant. India has also been trying to draft a bill against it but has gained little success so far.
Triple talaq is a serious issue that needs much greater attention. Now that the CII has recognised that though it “is in accordance with fiqh, (but), it is something which needs to be discouraged.” The government should work towards enacting a law in this regard.
