Pakistan Security Report 2017

Letter January 09, 2018
Report might add to the criticality and the fragility of relations between Pakistan and the US

ISLAMABAD: A report recently released by a Pakistani think tank titled Pakistan Security Report 2017 is likely to toughen things for both the civilian and military authorities in Pakistan. The report claims the IS group has increased its presence in the country particularly in Balochistan and parts of Sindh. The group was responsible for at least six terrorist attacks. While the report is an eye-opener for the authorities over the possibility of IS presence in the country, it might add to the criticality and the fragility of relations between Pakistan and the US, especially considering the current episodes of criticism Islamabad has received from Washington.

Simultaneously, the surge in cross-border attacks by 131 per cent gives Pakistan a stronger argument to put forward in its defence and provide the evidence that neighbouring countries are fomenting unrest and causing instability in the country.
