Overburdened courts

Letter January 04, 2018
Courts in Sindh due to mismanaged appointments remain overburdened throughout the year

HYDERABAD: According to press reports, 98,517 civil, family and criminal cases are pending before 27 district courts of Sindh. The number of new cases filed in the year 2017 almost equated the number of cases disposed of by the courts during the same year. The conviction rate for the cases remained at 26 per cent whereas numerous cases were settled through mediation and settlement among the parties. The situation has resulted in delays in the disposal of cases, alongside negatively affecting the entire process of hearings and prosecution.

Further, there is a possibility of even more cases being pending in the district courts of other cities in the province. Courts in Sindh due to untimely and mismanaged appointments remain overburdened throughout the year.
