The authorities concerned must ensure the implementation of the law
LAHORE: According to a report in this paper, a 10-year-old child maid allegedly tortured by the family she worked for still awaits justice. The lawyer for the accused is trying to ensure that the judge and his wife accused of, and charged with, beating and torturing the child maid brutally, are acquitted. Although the minor girl’s parents pardoned the judge and his wife in the name of God, the Supreme Court later took a suo-motu action on the matter. Despite a number of human rights activists actively pursuing it, the judgment in the case still remains to be announced primarily due to the non-implementation of the ICT Child Protection Bill in the federal capital.
Considering the magnitude of child abuse and child labour cases in the country, the delay in implementation of the relevant law is giving the culprits an easy way out along with delaying the cases in courts. The authorities concerned must ensure the implementation of the law in the federal capital on an urgent basis so that our children can be protected.
