How political figures in Pakistan practice the politics of dynasty
LAHORE: Though Pakistan has a long history of dynastic politics, the new generation has expressed its dislike for such politics as it undermines democracy and democratic governance.
The recent announcement by the disqualified PTI’s secretary general, Jehangir Tareen, to nominate his son for the same constituency he had held is no different than past precedents. It would be premature to evaluate Ali Khan Tareen’s political acumen at this stage. The move, however, is another instance of how political figures in Pakistan practise the politics of dynasty or nepotism without taking into account whether his or her progeny deserves it or not.
