Optimistic about future

Letter December 29, 2017
Pakistan embarked on a new era of development with CPEC about to enter its functional phase

LAHORE: As the year 2017 nears its end, a flash back of the passing year would remind Pakistanis that the year has been quite happening for the citizens of the country in all walks of life. With rather little good, political uncertainty prevailed in almost all sectors, from business to entertainment. Films witnessed bans even after their release on account of being controversial and against the national interests, whereas politically Pakistanis witnessed the coming of a new prime minister just months before the next general elections. Protests, court hearings, corruption charges all pointed at the changing political landscape that will unfold itself once the process to choose the new government begins in 2018.

Globally and transnationally, Pakistan embarked on a new era of development with CPEC about to enter its functional phase. Alongside this, efforts to remain in favourable terms with both the US and India also took centre stage. Keeping with the notion of ‘change’ being the biggest constant in the country this year, Pakistan is perhaps all set to embrace the change in the coming year as well along with the hope of becoming a better nation.
