Fears were also expressed recently when the MML polled a substantial number of votes
ISLAMABAD: On the grounds of the Milli Muslim League (MML) being an offshoot of a proscribed political outfit, the ministry of interior has opposed its registration as a political party. The ministry has presented its opinion on the basis of a report by an intelligence agency implying that the registration of the aforementioned might promote sectarian violence and extremism in the country.
Fears were also expressed recently when the MML polled a substantial number of votes in the recent by-election in NA-120, Lahore. The voting trend, undeniably alarming, points at the need for the government to pay heed to the apprehensions of the ministry of interior. If the MML is registered as a political party, it will harm Pakistan not only internally but it will also likely earn Pakistan a tough response from the US and India which already believe Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jamaatud Dawa are responsible for the Mumbai attacks. Therefore, the government must ensure that the MML is not registered as a political party.
