The Faizabad sit-in undermined the ‘authority’ of the state as an institution
RAWALPINDI: The COAS has asked “parliament to take the lead in framing foreign and security policies.” His advice is in line with our Constitution. The Preamble to our Constitution states that, “it is the will of the people of Pakistan to establish an order wherein the State shall exercise its powers and authority through the chosen representatives of the people.” Our Constitution provides a framework for legislature, executive and judiciary how to function and resolve all issues. But has the framework, enshrined in golden words of our Constitution, been upheld? The Faizabad sit-in undermined the ‘authority’ of the state as an institution. Why ‘chosen representatives’, including religious leaders, remained silent spectators? If they cannot play their due role in promoting cohesion and cooperation among the state institutions, they should resign from legislatures.
