Statistics continue to show the same mediocre state of education in the province
KARACHI: According to a recent report of a non-governmental organisation, Alif Ailaan, Sindh’s standard of education is only above than that of the Fata region in the entire country. Given the disappointing state of education in the province, the Sindh CM declared ‘education emergency’ in the province several months ago, which implied the implementation of necessary educational reforms to improve the quality of education provided in government schools and the literacy rate in the province. However, months later, statistics continue to show the same mediocre state of education in the province.
According to a recent newspaper report, the Sindh government plans to declare over 4,000 schools in the province ‘Model Schools’ with the provision of basic facilities and improved infrastructure. However, improved standard of education and improved literacy rate have little to do with premises and more with the curriculum taught and the educational background and experience of the teachers teaching in the schools. Without dealing with these issues, declaring schools ‘Model Schools’ would be an exercise in futility.
