Fake accounts which often engage in spreading fake news is just one among many harmful effects
KARACHI: While enough emphasis is placed upon the meaningful impact of social media it is equally important to highlight the negative impact of it. Social media is the collective term for online applications such as Line, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter, etc. It has connected the world but at the same time has a downside to it.
People are so busy in social media that they don’t give time to their family, friends and even important tasks. Things have come to such a sorry state that parents and children now barely interact with one another due to the fact that they are now glued to their screens for most of the time. Social media has badly affected our ability to concentrate on our work while also deteriorating purposeful hobbies such as book reading. Further, with the use of slang terms online, our languages have lost their true essence and charm even in non-virtual interactions.
Fake accounts which often engage in spreading fake news is just one among many harmful effects of social media’s irresponsible use. The government’s move to approach the Facebook administration to create new Facebook account only if a personal registered contact number is provided is indeed admirable. Last but not the least, terrorist groups and organisations are also using social media to their advantage, recruiting youngsters for terrorist activities. Hence, awareness about the responsible use of social media must be spread among its users.
