Time to shun harmful ideologies

Letter December 06, 2017
Ideologies are made by ruling elites and the clergy which are then imposed on the ruled

RAWALPINDI: Great philosophers have given different ideologies. One of them was Pierre Josephs, who founded anarchism. The word anarchy is a Greek word meaning no rule. A stateless society with chaos and disorder. The second ideology is nationalism whose author is Augustine Barud during the French Revolution of 1789, which taught the French to become patriotic and one nation. The third ideology which I want to state is religious fundamentalism. Fundamentalism is derived from the word fundamental, that is, basic and was first used by Protestants in early 1900s. According to them, religion not only influences individual lives and conduct but social, economic and political realms too. Religion has great influence on politics. A proper answer to the above-mentioned ideologies is democracy that originated in ancient Greece, which means the rule of majority. Democracy can be identified by the rule of law, protection of human rights and legal equality.

Ideologies are made by ruling elites and the clergy which are then imposed on the ruled. If we look at Pakistan’s case, it is one of the countries founded on ideological basis. Now it is up to the young generation of today to follow these ideologies blindly or use education and research work for the betterment of society by increasing awareness through teaching and implementation.
