PML-N falls on bad days

Letter December 04, 2017
Given the current situation, one can only hope and pray that the ruling party gets to complete its term

LAHORE: It is seemingly evident that the PML-N’s bad days are not over yet. The first sign of rift among the top party leadership began with Maryam Nawaz taking the central position in dealing with the situation after Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification, followed by PM Abbasi’s new cabinet not including important party figures like Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif.

Later, the PML-N faced a hard time at the hands of its own legislators when it defeated the PPP’s bill by a meagre margin in the National Assembly. And now the latest is the handling of the Faizabad protest, which has earned Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal and the PM severe backlash from all sides. Following the protest, not only the PML-Nawaz’s law minster had to resign but a number of party members parted their ways too due to the internal bickering within the party. As if this was not enough for the party to deal with, it currently stands in isolation not just in the legislatures but on important policy matters too, where no other party is willing to support it.

Given the current situation, one can only hope and pray that the ruling party gets to complete its term.
