Signs of rift

Letter December 04, 2017
The whole situation can bear a fruitful outcome for the government due to fissures within the group

ISLAMABAD: Unlike any other political or religious group, signs of a rift have emerged faster than any one could have foreseen within the Tehreek-e-Labbaik. The demonstration led by Dr Asif Ashraf Jalali, which earlier refused to end the sit-in despite a call from Khadim Hussain Rizvi, has now been disowned by the latter.

Though Dr Jalali ended the sit-in upon negotiations with the Punjab government, as he has already been disowned by Khadim Hussain, the future of the political standing of the defected group is yet to unfold. Nonetheless, the whole situation can bear a fruitful outcome for the government due to fissures within the group. Though negotiations, as these were named by both the sides, were actually the government’s acceding to the demands of the group, the dissension within the group will give the government a chance to deal with the situation in a better way.
