Collective error

Letter November 29, 2017
PPP lambasted the government for giving into the demands of the protesters

FAISALABAD: Following the resignation of Law Minister Zahid Hamid after the 20-day-long sit-in, religious parties must be feeling victorious. Though a few major mainstream political parties have chosen to stay silent over the issue due to its sensitivity, the PPP lambasted the government for giving into the demands of the protesters. The PTI, on the other hand, refrained from taking up any hardline stance on the issue, while the party head, Imran Khan, chanted his old rhetoric of the government’s failure. It’s high time that the PTI stopped lashing out at the government and its policy failures without giving the on-ground facts any consideration.

We should also not forget that the ‘clerical error’ that caused the whole crisis might be a collective mistake, as other political parties, including the PTI, were part of the parliamentary process when the legislation was being drafted. Yet the government alone had to bear the brunt of it.
